Biogas production kinetics from rice husk waste during solid state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD)

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

In this study, biogas production kinetics from rice husk waste during solid state anaerobic digestion (SS-AD) was investigated. The kinetic model of biogas production was developed through modified Gompertz equation. Rice husk as substrate was inoculated by rumen fluid to the anaerobic biodigester. Laboratory experiments using 600 ml biodigester were performed in batch operation mode. The variables varied from C/N ratio. The cumulative volume of biogas produced was used to measure the biodigester performance. The research resulted the highest kinetic constant of biogas production were biogas production potential (A), maximum biogas production rate (U), and minimum time to produce biogas (λ) were 19,526 mL/(grTS), 0,404 mL/(grTS·day), and 4,063 days, respectively. Biogas production potential (A) and maximum biogas production rate (U) obtained was less than generally occurred in liquid state anaerobic digestion (L-AD). However, SS-AD has volumetric loading of biogas production higher than generally in liquid anaerobic digestion (L-AD).
