Abstract
To effectively maintain fish quality and market value in Indonesia, it is essential to upgrade and modify the insulation systems on traditional fishing vessels. This study aims to assess the implementation of insulation materials on fish storage of traditional fishing vessels using numerical transient heat transfer methods with Abaqus software. The key parameters studied to understand their impact on temperature distribution in fish storage structures include the type of insulation materials, thickness configurations, cargo capacities, and draft heights. Simulation results reveal that different insulation materials such as polyurethane, polyisocyanurate, expanded polystyrene, and extruded polystyrene show different heat insulation performance. It can be found that polyurethane material performs best in heat retention and maintains a better temperature in the inner cargo. Analysis comparing thickness configurations indicates that thicker insulation leads to lower inner cargo temperatures. Moreover, the effect of cargo height and payload shows that temperatures remain below 277.4 K under all conditions, demonstrating that increased cargo results in lower temperatures in the deck structure.
